Indications:
For treatment of hypercholesterolemia when monotherapy is insufficient. Helps reduce LDL cholesterol by dual action on synthesis and absorption.
Pharmacology:
Atorvastatin inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, decreasing liver cholesterol synthesis. Ezetimibe blocks intestinal absorption of cholesterol, providing combined lipid-lowering effects.
Dosage:
One tablet orally once daily, with or without food. Dose may be adjusted by physician.
Administration:
Take orally once daily, preferably at the same time each day.
Interaction:
May interact with cyclosporine, fibrates, warfarin, and grapefruit juice. Monitor for potential interactions.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to components, active liver disease, pregnancy, and lactation.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include headache, muscle pain, and gastrointestinal upset. Rarely myopathy and elevated liver enzymes.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding due to possible risks.
Precautions & Warnings:
Regular monitoring of liver function and muscle symptoms recommended. Report unexplained muscle pain or weakness immediately.
